Gods' Trombones, by James Weldon Johnson, is a re-creation of a series of seven sermons delivered in the style of the great Black preachers of the 19th through early 20th centuries. The congregational-style singing and responses from the chorus, the costumes, and the heart-felt religious ferver of the soloists embody the church experience of that time.
